Checkmate
We all see the UCPD rolling around campus grounds and think nothing of it. But what if at anytime you saw UCPD and you might be expected to show your UC id? You may not think you are a "suspicious" being but UCPD thinks your up to something. According to the "University Rule 40-27-01: Identification Card Policies; this will allow UCPD pass judgement on who is suspicious and who is not. "Student Government, just recently passed this new campus policy saying. " UCPD is here to provide a safe campus for us. However, this has nothing to do with racial profiling. It has everything to do with campus safety." Why was race brought up in the first place? Do we have a fear of our neighboring primarily Black men and women? I feel the only reason why race was brought up was because we know that's what we are exactly worried about, right? This in some cases brings up issues that Tim Wise has brought up in his videos on "white privilege". I'm not exactly saying that is the case, but I've noticed somewhat of a parallel from his videos and this issue. This has not only become a racial issue but a gender issue as well. UC Transgender students have an issue as well, fearing there I.D,'s might not exactly match up with there present identities. Is this a step forward for a safer campus here at the University of Cincinnati?
